Mexico City, formerlyis one of the 1 Mexican states, 32 16 17 officially considered the capital of the country.18 It is located in the Valley of Mexico, at an average altitude of 19 msnm . It has an area of 2240 square kilometers, and is administratively divided into 1495 delegations. Its population is approximately 16 million inhabitants; However, when considering also the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico, 8.9 then it is a total population of more than 20 million people which places it as one of the largest and most populated urban agglomerations in the world and the largest in th e American continent and the Spanish-speaking world.

Ha sido el escenario de varios de los acontecimientos históricos y mediáticos más importantes de dicha nación. La Ciudad de México tuvo un PIB, en 2016, de 550 819 millones de dólares,9 con un un crecimiento medio en ese año de 4.0 % (por encima de la media nacional); dichas cifras representaron el 17 por ciento del total del PIB nacional, siendo la principal economía de México, además de significar una aportación del 32% al crecimiento económico del país ese año.21 Catalogada como ciudad global, es uno de los centros financieros y culturales más importantes del mundo. Su crecimiento es uno de los más veloces a nivel global y se espera que su economía se triplique para el año 2020.
The city was founded by the Mexicas 13 March 1325, in the center of Lake Texcoco with the name of Mexico-Tenochtitlan. This city became the capital of the Mexica Empire. 13 of August of 1521, the mexicas were defeated with the taking of the city of Mexico-Tenochtitlan, at the hands of the Spaniards, event that marked the beginning of the colonial time.
In 1535 the Viceroyalty of New Spain was officially created, and the new Mexico City was established on top of the old Mexico-Tenochtitlan, recognized by a royal decree of 1545 as Very Noble, Insigne, Loyal and Imperial Mexico City by Carlos I of Spain.22 At that time it was declared capital of the viceroyalty and it operated thereafter as political, financial and administrative center of the territories of the Spanish Empire in North America, Central America, Asia and Oceania. Spanish domination over the capital city came to an end at the end of the independence war in 1821, with the entrance of the Trigarante Army into the city.
In 1823, with the proclamation of the First Federal Republic, officially ended the First Mexican Empire (1821-1823), and the 18 of November of 1824, the Congress decided to create a Federal District (that is, an entity other than the Other states), to house the Executive, Legislative and Judicial powers in a territory that does not belong to any particular state, in order to avoid the hegemony of a state over the others of the federation. Thanks to Fray Servando Teresa de Mier and some other people who supported her cause, Mexico City was chosen as the place where the powers of the union were concentrated.23

Since then, a majority of the inhabitants of Mexico City have decided to choose center-left / left heads of government for the capital. In 24 after a political reform its official name changed of Federal District to Mexico City. In 25 its political constitution was promulgated.
In Mexico City, four of the 34 heritage sites of the country are located: the Historical Center, Xochimilco, the Central Campus of the University City of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Casa And study by Luis Barragan. 1968 was the first city in Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world to host an Olympic Games.
The city has the second largest number of museums (151) in the world, just below London.
